I guess you are talking about premium membership like wsj etc. I am not sure a free exchange of ideas can occur if we put our membership for sale by restricting access to some parts of the website. IV will lose some of its sheen and I am not sure the tradeoff in membership $ is worth it- dunno just doesn't feel right in the gut
that IV will loose members if we force a fee. I beg to ask what other choices you have? Enlighten me. please..........

Immigration Voice have shown to the immigration community what they can do. Let's look at what Immigration Voice have done so far.
1. Hiring Strategic counsel (One of the top notch companies in DC.)
2. Spending money wisely so that all the members have the best ROI.
3. Convincing senators to bring amendments to the SJC immigration reform bill.
4. Membership going up consistently.
5. Endorsement from successful Immigration lawyers in US.
6. Media coverage (Roll call article, NBC interview)
7. Thorough analysis of immigration related bills, laws and provisions.
8. Immigration Voice members trust.
I don't think there is any thing left. What else do we want. Contributing $200 or more is nothing if you compare the pain that you take while waiting for the GC. Ask yourself what is important. The pain or contributing $200 or more to Immigration Voice.

this is the code that has been amended
(9)
(A) The Attorney General shall impose a fee on an employer (excluding any employer that is a primary or secondary education institution, an institution of higher education, as defined in section 1001 (a) of title 20, a nonprofit entity related to or affiliated with any such institution, a nonprofit entity which engages in established curriculum-related clinical training of students registered at any such institution, a nonprofit research organization, or a governmental research organization) filing before [1] a petition under paragraph (1)—
(i) initially to grant an alien nonimmigrant status described in section 1101 (a)(15)(H)(i)(b) of this title;
(ii) to extend the stay of an alien having such status (unless the employer previously has obtained an extension for such alien); or
(iii) to obtain authorization for an alien having such status to change employers.
(B) The amount of the fee shall be $1,500 for each such petition except that the fee shall be half the amount for each such petition by any employer with not more than 25 full-time equivalent employees who are employed in the United States (determined by including any affiliate or subsidiary of such employer).
(C) Fees collected under this paragraph shall be deposited in the Treasury in accordance with section 1356 (s) of this title.
this is the addition:
in each case that fees is applied per para 9 and 11 (see 9 above) a supplemental fee of $ (8500 in original) 5000 will be applied
effect: new H1b, renewal - but based on the above only the first renewal for any given employer, if you change employers the clock starts again. total fees $1500 + 5000 = $6500
and that is a helluva lot of moolah!

Don't know whether you have experienced one or not, but I have, where my close Indian colleagues and friends tell me that there is this big cultural event, arranged by this part of india they belong to (Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Rajasthani, Gujarati are those that I have experienced) and don't even invite me. It is openly declared what group function is that and beleive me or not, the name India does not exist in thee registered name or throughout the function.
I know it's off the topic but I had to mention this because some people compare themselves with freedom fight and say they are fighting for a cause. We as a country are completely divided in US and many of my american friends are well aware of this fact.
Coming back to cultural events and money collection, it would have been a good amount of collection by now, if there were many different IV portals one for each community, just a thought.
Organizing cultural events does sound like a good idea, but again the problem is "organizing". I volunteered in a few cultural event organizations and know that its hardwork and need many volunteers even in a small city (especially if its a fund-raising type). My understanding is state chapters are crying for members, if state chapters have enough volunteers it would be a good idea.
I think there were many brainstorming discussions on fund raising earlier on these forums. The problem with these anonymous forums are that anyone can give a suggestion and then do nothing about it (I am guilty of the same sometimes). Thats why I liked the idea of state chapters where members know each other and may be able to motivate each other to volunteer some time/money/etc.

smisachu and all other gurus above -
how do you guys manage to do options/commodities/fx trading without missing prod release? :) you all seem to have lot of knowledge about all this stuff and its good to learn something new (although one like me need to google to understand what smisachu is saying :D)
I invest in stocks and etfs but am very impatient when it comes to maximize profits.. i like to take small small profits (5% to 7%) instead of one big kill.. btw, can someone suggest good REIT etfs? (sorry, not related to original commodities topic)

I am pretty much in the same boat and I think the reason for most worrying is not your GC but the financial impact it might have on you.
Contact your insurance ( They will provide the lawyer for your defense) You will not need to pay for the services. If any damage is awarded more than your policy maximum that becomes your liability- But the onus of collecting is on the plaintiff - They cannot file criminal charges because you do not have money to pay- So your GC would not have issues though they can freeze your pay from the employer. All of this is provided that they dont settle out of court which they do lots of time.
The only request keep this thread updated through your progress so that others can refer to this if they happen to fall in the same position.

I want to give some fraud and abuse examples. Unfortunately, there are some bad apples in the H-1B visa program.
From The Grassley Visa Tax (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=191337&postcount=1383) The Wall Street Journal Editorial, November 2, 2007
Department of Labor investigations reveal that some 90% of violations are paperwork offenses and good-faith misunderstandings.

That is India time....
If you transfer less than 1000 USD to outside SBI, they will charge 25 rupees, the only problem is that they will not specify that charges any where in the transaction.....but it will be accurate all the time....
Just a correction SBI charges Rs. 25 for every transaction whether < 1000 or more.
Service charge of Rs.25/- (inclusive of Service Tax @ 12.36%) will be levied on every transaction where foreign currency conversion is carried out w.e.f. 16 May 2008.
