On the same note I have a question for the Gurus.
My name is reversed ( first name and last name interchanged) on my SSN and hence on my credit cards, employment letters etc though my name is correct on my passport , H1 , I-797 and on files AOS.. etc.
Will this pose a problem in the name check process?
My attorney said I should change my name with SSN after EAD/AP arrives.
Let me know ur opinions.

I don't realize why should anyone blame cableching...??
It seems to me that he just shared the information that he got and the way he understood. Would anyone else have done it any differently?
I dont think it really matters whether they have used up all visas now vs at the end of sept. Because, there were "X" number of visas to be given out and so "X" number of applicants would be chosen randomly (USCIS Lottery style..:p) and that happend...
If at all, this is a good news, that they actually finished this lottery process and so nothing will go to waste...(It would be too bad if california Lotto comes out with a winner number ticket that does not belong to anyone!!!)
And, we will never know whether this news is true or it is a misunderstanding on the part of cableching or the IO lady. (I personally dont think either of them are lying...but it could be a misunderstanding, especially with regard to category EB3 vs EB2). Regardless whether it is ture or a misunderstanding, we will see approvals coming through over next several months. (Just like what happened in June 07). So it is quilte likely that many of the waiting people would get their GCs if their names is picked up in the lottery!! So good luck to all...
I also believe that such memo WILL need to be sent out to all USCIS local offices as they do process some applications in some cases (with interviews etc...) and they do need to know if all the numbers are exhausted.

2. Where on this form do I sign?
3. Do we need two witnesses as the form asks for two Names / Addresses?
4. What else I might be asked for when getting it notarized?

Ok, i had the same problem.
Surname: blank
Given Name: First Last.
But in all US documents had it correctly distinguished. Recently when i renewed my passport i got it fixed at NY. You DO NOT NEED a news paper ad for this kind of change. I went to NY Indian consulate personally to ask this question as no one was lifting the phone. The person over there gave me a special form to fill it out and get it notarized. I did all of that and they printed the name correctly. Another guy had same problem, he did not even filled out that form, but they corrected his name as well. I was surprised how lenient these guys are.
Me and the other guy were joking on the way back in train because they did it for him without the special application, its like they don't care what name you have, " do you want Tom Cruise, i will write Tom Cruise - no problem at all, or even better, we will give you passports with empty name column, you fill it up with whatever you want :) "
Don't worry guys, this change is easy and this does not impact 485 as well, as long as you have always reported your correct name in your other USCIS documents. THEY KNOW that internationals have their names goofed up in their passports. Its not new for them.

Currently NSC processing time for employment based 485 is 15th Sept. 2007... My notice date is 18th Sept. 2007 (based on case status shown on USCIS site)
Looks like I am going to miss my GC by 3 days and wait till next year :mad: I highly doubt that dates will stay at 2005 during next month bulletin.. (I truly hope I am wrong!)
Published dates are approximate dates for a ball park idea on where cases are for minimizing phone calls. If published date is Sep 8, 2007. It could have a very wide window of reality between (i) someone has looked at least one case of this date, or (ii) All cases upto this date have been seen. Most likely reality is close to first, as USCIS asks you to contact them if your 'receive notice date' is prior to the published date (suggesting that normally they expect all cases by the date should have been processed).
This suggests that there are cases with 'receive notice date' AFTER the published date, which have been opened. So, be optimistic, and hope for the best.

My complete name <A B> is written in the passport on the surname line. The given name field is blank! So it is in the passport as:
surname: <A B>
given name:
I would like my new passport to have it correctly as
surname <B>
given name <A>
But the consulate has refused to do it without a notarized affidavit.
I did take the affidavit to my bank for notarization, but they were obviously clueless about the affidavit form and refused to notarize it.
